Since 1994, the renaming of South Africa’s landscape, be it parks, cities, major roads and the like, has attracted a fair amount of controversy. Cape Town has been ringing in the changes, and has just adopted a new name for Western Boulevard, choosing to honour late South African parliamentarian and anti-Apartheid activist, Helen Suzman by naming the busy thoroughfare that runs from the intersection of Buitengracht Street and Nelson Mandela Boulevard (which was once Eastern Boulevard) towards Three Anchor Bay and Greenpoint after her.
