Welcome to Re-make Mondays, a weekly feature that takes a look at a remake/reboot currently being touted to hungry cinema/TV audiences. I’ll feature the remake, and also what footage or content I can from the original, and then leave the helpless victim for you all to tear apart or cuddle up to in the comments. So, let’s get started.

This is a show that, even a decade after its final episode aired, needs little introduction. Three words: Who shot J.R.? How about an entire season that turned out to be one character’s dream? Between 1978 and 1991, the world was enthralled by the soapy Southern oil-drenched melodrama in South Fork, Texas.

Do I even need to say more

Last year, TNT (sister channel to Warner Bros. in the States, that owns the rights to Dallas) commissioned a new series of Dallas. The show’s popularity has endured through syndication, and in 2007, TIME Magazine listed it among the most popular TV shows of all time.

The new show is not a reboot, but continues on years later from where the original left off. It will mix new characters with old, with fan favourites such as Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy returning to reprise their roles.

Here’s a look at TNT’s new version of Dallas:

    My Verdict:

This looks to recreate all the soapy goodness of the original with some much-needed update of production values, not to mention some hot young flesh to fill out the roles of the descendants of the Ewing family. Will this be the role that revives Jesse Metcalf’s career? Probably not, but it looks too good to miss in any case. Any show that can get Larry Hagman out of retirement and back into that Stetson gets my vote.
