Iran’s army has warned that it will take action against America if a particular US aircraft carrier, which was moved due to naval exercises, returns to Iranian waters. The threat sounds far from empty, too.
Iran’s army chief, Ataollah Saheli, made this strongly-worded statement last night:
Iran will not repeat its warning… the enemy’s carrier has been moved to the Sea of Oman because of our drill. I recommend and emphasise to the American carrier not to return to the Persian Gulf…
I advise, recommend and warn them (the Americans) over the return of this carrier to the Persian Gulf because we are not in the habit of warning more than once.
Advise, recommend, warn and emphasise. Nothing vague about that.
Iran also said during its recent naval drills that it would shut down the Strait of Hormuz if other nations imposed sanctions on its exports of crude oil. This would be a critical blow to foreign traders – as much as 40 per cent of the world’s traded oil is shipped through the strategic waterway.
