Douglas Mallett, 23, won a Golf GTI in the fading light of the Cape Town Tens rugby festival over the weekend. This post could also be titled: “How To Kick A Rugby Ball At A Crossbar…Like A Boss”.
The son of former Springbok player and SA rugby coach, Nick Mallett, managed to pull off an incredible kick from the halfway line. The ball had to hit the crossbar during a kicking competition on the final evening of the well-attended two-day tournament. It did.
For his efforts Doug was awarded the R365 000 vehicle by storage company, Stor-Age.
The UCT alumnus and former Ikeys rugby player’s celebration in this video is something to behold. And his comment on the fluke win? “Completely ridiculous!”
