“Tonto, what the hell is that on Depp’s head?!” “No idea, kemosabe!”
Another year, another tepid re-make. This time, Hollywood mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has teamed up with veteran director, Gore Verbinski, to revive the tale of Texas’ most mysterious hero, The Lone Ranger. This hot mess has been languishing in development hell for almost ten years, swapping writers and directors almost as much as they swapped the horse that played the Ranger’s steed, Silver. Apparently, the tone they’re going for in this re-make is Mask of Zorro with a slight supernatural twist. Sounds… thrilling.
The film is set to drop in 2013, and just yesterday, producers released the first image from the film, featuring Social Network and J. Edgar alumnus, Armie Hammer, as the mysterious Ranger, and Johnny Depp as his Native American side-kick , Tonto. Yes, the man with the bird on his head. Clearly Depp is still channelling Captain Jack Sparrow a little too literally. Bruckheimer also went to lengths to reassure fans that work is still underway on the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Double thrilling. The leading lady will be relative unknown British actress, Ruth Wilson.
Put a bird on it!
