SAA has confirmed that a COPE MP was arrested on board a flight to Mumbai over the weekend. Dirk Feldman apparently got drunk, decided he wanted to leave the plane, and then began fumbling with the emergency door.

According to Beeld newspaper, Feldman, a Cope MP from Gauteng in the National Council of Provinces, was travelling as part of an official parliamentary delegation to India on Saturday when he apparently “had a few drinks too many”.

Cope’s chief whip, Dennis Bloem, said he was “embarrassed” about the incident.

They detained him [Feldman] for a few hours at the airport and then released him, after which he was sent home. He apparently drank too much and they said he was behaving badly.
