By now you would have heard that the ANCYL is marching in Cape Town this morning. They will be joined by members of the ANC; the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu); the South African Students Congress (SASCO); the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO); the Congress of South African Students (COSAS); the Islamic Unity Convention; and taxi organisations: Congress for Democratic Taxi Associations (CODETA) and Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA). About 14 000 people are expected to march.

The ANCYL promised to keep things orderly and peaceful. However some traffic and noise disruptions can still be expected.

The City of Cape Town has released the following important information, along with an appeal to the ANCYL to “respect and observe all relevant laws and Municipal by-laws relating to nuisance, use of loudspeakers, traffic etc. at all times.” To this end, there will also be police deployed to supervise the demonstrators.

[UPDATE: The march has been delayed by TWO HOURS, due to “transport issues.” The march will commence at 12h00.]

• The participants will assemble at Keizersgracht from 10:00 onwards this morning.
• The march will start no later than 11h00 from Keizersgracht along Darling Street, left into Adderley Street, and then to the Provincial buildings in Wale Street.
• Once they have reached the Provincial buildings, the ANC Youth League will hand over a memorandum to the Office of the Premier.
• The demonstrators will then commence their return along the same route originally followed by no later than 13h30.
