Geoffrey McGann
On Friday, an advertising creative named Geoffrey McGann was arrested at Oakland airport for wearing a watch that looked suspiciously like a bomb. And even though it was eventually found that the watch did not contain any explosives, by looking at the image below we don’t think anyone could blame the TSA for raising the alarm. He was hiding the watch in a military style shirt with a built-in tourniquet in the sleeves.
According to McGann’s lawyer, Douglas Horngrad, the watch is nothing more than a piece of “art”. He even sent the media an email stating that his client “has created several dozen of [these watches], and given them to friends, business associates, and nieces and nephews.”
But the story gets weirder.
At the time of his arrest, McGann was also wearing shoes two sizes too big for him. The rest of the space was filled with additional layers of insoles. This is the exact same way that the famous 2001 shoe bomber, Richard Reid, also got his explosives onto the plane. McGann claimed he was wearing the shoes because they “made him look taller”.
Although McGann was brought to jail for possession of materials to produce an explosive device and given a hefty bail, the prosecutors eventually declined to file criminal charges.
