Gizmodo ran a photograph challenge for its readers. The entries had to be shot and edited on whatever phones the contestants were using. This, of course, meant a whole lot of filters, but also a bunch of really good images.
Smartphone cameras are improving at a ridiculous rate, and it seems you don’t need a DSLR to capture a great image. What you do need, it seems, is a bunch of hipster filters. While filters are not a bad thing in themselves, some of the Gizmodo finalists’ photos would be pretty damn average if they hadn’t been aged, bordered, and lomo’ed to within an inch of their lives.
Here is Gizmodo’s winner, with a couple other rad shots in the gallery.
WINNER: LA Skyight – – David Freid
I caught this lightplosion on a morning hike through Griffith Park in Los Angeles. iPhone 5 and Instagram.
