With only one day to go before we are all history, many are flocking to famous Mayan sites in Central America where they will await mankind’s doom.
One such site is Tikal, also known as “the New York City of Maya ruins”. In the past couple of days, guards have been throwing out naked women dancing and chanting around fire pits. Local hotels are also fully booked for tonight as doomsday-mongers descend for their final night on Earth.
Movie buffs will also know the area as the moon Yavin 4 – the rebel base in Star Wars. Apparently many of the film’s fans are also there because they wanted to witness the apocalypse where “the force is strong.” Ricardo Alejos, the president of Guatemala’s Star Wars fan club:
Something big is going to happen. The Maya were an incredibly precise people.
Tomorrow sees the end of the 13th and final baktun in the 5 125-year Maya Long Calendar and, according to predictions, the world.
