The name Luis Suarez leaves a bitter taste in most South African’s mouths after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. But this time Luis has moved to another level. Liverpool’s “trouble-prone” striker attempted to bite the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on Sunday during a soccer match between the two teams at Anfield.

The biting occured half way through the second half, when the Uraguayan striker sank his teeth into the Chelsea defender’s upper arm after a penalty area tussle. Ivanovic pushed Suarez away, but the referee did not see the fowl move on Suarez’s part.

And this was not Suarez’s first biting incident. In 2010 he was banned from seven Ajax club games for biting PSV Eindhoven player, Otman Bakkal during a Dutch league game. Lucky for Luis, he left Ajax before he could complete his suspension.

In October 2011 he was banned for eight matches after racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.

Suarez has apologised to Ivanovic via Twitter for his “inexcusable behaviour.”

I’m sad for what happened this afternoon, I apologize Ivanovic and all football world for my inexcusable behaviour. I’m so sorry about it!!

    Followed by this.

I’ve just spoken to Ivanovic on the phone and I could apologise directly to him. Thanks for accepting.
