Paris Saint Germain (PSG) won the French Championship League for the first time since 1994, and wanted to show off their trophy in the streets of Paris on Monday. But the club’s parade was cut short when hooligans fans started breaking car windows, throwing tear gas and lighting flares. PSG defender, Zoumana Camara said:
There were fireworks, flares and a bit of (tear) gas flying about. But you can understand that a bit because they (the fans) have been waiting for so long.
Thousands of fans awaited the arrival of the players, David Beckham being one of them. But the crowd quickly became anxious and the players had to be led away by security personal. PSG said this in statement:
All the members of the club, the players and the directors, express to all of these loyal and passionate fans their heartfelt regret that today’s title presentation ceremony had to be cut short.
