Wouldn’t it be cool if all the iPhones ever sold were joined together to make a giant screen? Indeed it would and that is excatly what Josh Orter has done. Orter is the maths genius behind the website Stupid Calculations.
With the help of iPhone sales information and basic maths Orter has calculated that the screen would be 1,541 metres tall and 867 metres wide. If these are just numbers to you, try this. The iPhone screen would be three times taller than the current height of the One World Trade Center building – that’s mind blowing.
Orter found out how many iPhones had been purchased since 2007 up until now – 352,292,000. And from this he figured out the collective surface area with the dimensions of an iPhone. Obviously there is a lot more to it but the answer is the stunner. The surface area is 330.54 acres. Cape Town Stadium’s pitch area is 13,535 square metres, this monophone’s surface area is 1,336 million square metres.
