OK, so the concept of finishing school isn’t the worst thing in the world… if you’re focused on having the next royal baby or something like that. But women in China seem to disagree. So much so, that they are willing to pay around R157,000 for just 10 days of etiquette training.
According to Agence France Presse, wealthy Chinese women have been applying for classes at the two week finishing school. The Institute Sarita in Beijing, teaches a girl to become a woman, for a huge cost and 90 hours of their life. On top of the classic table manner lessons, some of the “classes” that are provided teach the girls how to dress…with elegance, play elitist sports like golf and riding as well as tour art galleries for some…culture.

They recognize that being viewed as ‘nouveau riche’ makes them vulnerable to popular criticism. They feel a need to demonstrate to the world that they are not just crude money-grubbing upstarts, but have some cultural refinement and civility.
