The latest Marmite advert depicts “Marmite welfare officers” doing the rounds and collecting jars of Marmite that have been abandoned or neglected – and animal welfare advocates are throwing a collective tantrum over it.
Some 250 complaints have been made to the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority – the ad was only released on Monday.
Here’s a sample of the beef against the vegetable spread, as published on Facebook:
your new advert is very bad taste. Animal abuse is no laughing matter and think it’s very wrong to jokingly use such a subject as a marketing scheme to increase your sales.
Meanwhile, PETA gave the ad their stamp of approval. The animal rights group is of the opinion that the ad serves as a reminder to viewers of the work that animal welfare officers do.
