Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom premiered on Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival, and received a 10 minute standing ovation when it was all said and done.
British actor, Idris Elba played Mandela in the iconic role, and portrayed a sexier side to Madiba, there is even a sex scene.
Madiba’s granddaughter, Ndileka Mandela, said:
For me, Idris is the sexiest person and I want to see the film for that alone. But granddad was a sexy person, he was drop-dead gorgeous, a real lady-killer.
Sex appeal aside, Elba has been vocal about his joy for the film, saying it is hands down the best. He said:
[…]This is called Long Walk to Freedom, this is the book about his life and it’s his own words
Adding that it is important not to miss the point of the film.
Actor Deon Lotz, who plays a former justice minister who played a crucial role in Madiba’s release, Kobie Coetzee, said it was an honour to be in the movie. He added:
It was a proudly South African moment
South African actor, Jamie Bartlett (David Genaro in TV’s Rhythm City) was also in the movie, playing Nelson Mandela’s censor officer and prison guard, James Gregory.
Lotz said about the film:
It is a must-see for every South African. In the bigger picture the timing of this film is perfect
