Remember Albert Buitenhuis, the obese South African living in New Zealand, who was threatened with deportation because he was just too fat? Albert’s work visa renewal was rejected because of the strain his weight problem could put on the New Zealand health care system. Well, things turned around for him because he was granted a 23-month reprieve.
Immigration Minister Nikki Kaye said:
Under this arrangement he is not entitled to publicly-funded health care and he will have to meet any health costs himself.
Buitenhuis moved to New Zealand with his wife six years ago when he weighed 160 kilograms, he now weighs 130 kilograms.
