Yes, okay last weekend we slipped up a little. We admit. Time for redemption then.
It is pretty simple this weekend – 3 Currie Cup games and 2 Momentum One-Day Cup matches. Easy.
Well…
On the rugby side of things there are some very interesting match ups. Given that this is the last weekend before the semi-finals, there is plenty to play for. Fro 5 of the 6 teams at least. The Griquas have thrown in the towel and have made something like 12 changes to their team which has lost 8 out of 9 games this season. They are resting their “A-team” for the playoffs? Anyways, moving on.
The 3 matches are:
Lions vs Griquas
Cheetahs vs Bulls
Sharks vs Province
We have already established that the Lions are going to win. The Lions do still have something to play for, they would want to secure their spot in the playoff and if they were to lose and The Bulls were to win the two teams would be tie on points, although realistically The Lions would still progress on point difference but these are calculations that The Lions would not want to worry about. A win here would do it.
The second match up is a little harder to call. The Cheetahs are obviously the favourites going into this clash but it is The Bulls that have more to play for. Mathematically there is still a chance for them to qualify for the semi-finals but it really is a long shot, especially playing in Bloem. The Bulls do have the welcome return of the Springbok centres in Serfontein and Engelbrecht but strangely enough though, this is where The Bulls have been strongest all season with out the Springbok duo. We don’t think that The Bulls will win with the necessary 4-try bonus point but we are willing to take a gamble on the fact that they will throw everything they have at a win and that should be enough to come out on top. Bulls to win, just.
In the third match up and a top of the table clash, it really is anyones guess here. Sharks are slight favourites going into the match but only because of the home ground advantage. Yes, The Sharks have their Springboks back but none starting in the back line with Lambie once again finding himself in his regular position of bench-warmer. The big change comes in the inclusion of a Springbok front row with Jannie, Biz and Beast in the run on 15. We however don’t think that this will be enough to secure the home team a win. The Province team are looking to good and have one of the most decorated benches imaginable. in terms of the starting 15, Etzebeth, Vermeulen and Kolisi all get a start in the pack. Juan de Jongh also makes a start at outside centre. The bench is where you will find the small names of none other than Springbok captain Jean De Villiers and the one and only Schalk Burger. It is for this reason, for the pedigree and current talent included in the Province team that we think they can get the win that would secure them top position in the log.
Cricket:
Well, this is awkward. It is the first round of matches this weekend and not a hell of a lot to go on other than gut feeling.
The gut says – Highveld Lions to beat The Dolphins. Why? The Lions have just come back from Champions League duties, they have had more time together. The Dolphins haven’t won a trophy in 8 years and have a 34-year old captain. Enough said. Lions to win.
Warriors to beat The Knights. Why? Because Warriors were heads, Knights were tails. It landed on heads. Done.
The above multiple is currently offering 12 – 1 odds. A nice safe bet. There are a range of options, offering up to 100 -1 odds! So, if you missed out last weekend. Now is your chance.
