That’s right, friends. Vistors to the CBD will enjoy free parking today in the normally paid-for spots, owing to a parking marshall strike.
This, from IOL:
Employer Street Parking Solution and the workers had a contract for marshals to be paid 23.5 percent commission on parking fees collected, he said.
“The 23.5 percent is in the contract. We have not been getting this for four years. Workers are very unhappy and feel they are being used. We’ve been treated unfairly for a long time,” he said.
The free parking will be available for as long as the strike continues, so you better run those errands while the going’s good.
Let us know if the parking marshalls get back to work at any point today.
