Gym-going okes are always trying to push themselves, hey. And the scientists behind the supplements that keep the okes going are also always trying to push themselves. Now, we all remember the Jack3d controversy, but this one is something else. Recent tests have shown that a popular sports supplement in the US contains meth. That’s right, meth.

The new supplement powder, “Craze” was found to have a small amount of methamphetamine in it. Whether or not that small amount is enough to make you sick – or high – is unknown as yet. But medical practitioners have begun to get a little tetchy recently, seeing that another supplement, OxyELITE Pro, was linked to 24 cases of liver failure and one death in Hawaii just last week.

What’s crazy is that two athletes used Craze last year, and were banned from international competitions. Why it took so long for the Harvard researchers to realise that the stuff contained  “21 to 35 milligrams per serving” of N alpha-diethylphenylethylamine (basically meth) is beyond us.

The ingredients listed on the pack include things like caffeine and creatine, but nowhere does it list the ominous N alpha-diethylphenylethylamine. Marc Ullman, the attorney tasked with defending Craze, said he didn’t agree with the findings.

We’re talking about some very complicated analytical work, and we haven’t had the opportunity to have our experts review the nature of the analytical testing being done and whether the methods were validated.

    Nice one, china.

PS: Props to anyone who can phonetically spell out “N alpha-diethylphenylethylamine” in the comments. Go.
