If you think that shoelace-untying ended in high school, you are sadly mistaken.
In what was truly one of the most bizarre transgressions in NBA history, JR Smith was fined R500,000 for repeatedly trying to untie his opponent’s shoelaces over a period of several games.
The NBA announced Smith’s fine on Wednesday, terming it as “recurring instances of unsportsmanlike conduct.”
Smith is apparently a really talented player, but his career has been blighted by a series of genuinely bizarre antics. The video above is from Sunday, when he first tried to untie the laces of Shawn Marion of the Dallas Mavericks.
