When it sank to the bottom of the ocean, the Titanic took many secrets along with it. But one secret, now labelled as ‘the Titanic’s last mystery’ has just been cracked.

Two year-old Loraine Allison had been travelling on the Titanic with her family when it sank. Initial reports said that she had died, along with her parents, but no body was ever found.

Recently, though, a sensational twist in the tale saw a woman named Helen Kramer come forward claiming to be Lorraine Allison, and was able to back up her claims with details thought to be known only to the family.

She then mounted a campaign to be accepted by the Allison family, which was met with much disdain. Her claim to the family has been sustained, after her death, by Kramer’s descendants.

But now, following the establishment of the Loraine Allison Identification Project, the final mystery has been solved.

DNA tests of both Kramer and the Allison were completed, only for scientists to discover that there was no link between the two families whatsoever.

And so it remains Lorraine Allison retains the regrettable title of being the only child in first or second class to die that night.
