My how the cookie has crumbled. Charly’s Bakery tried to cash in on the media circus revolving Oscar Pistorius’s trial, by creating meme cookies. Their creation backfired and has left a bad taste in the mouths of the bakery’s online following.
The post on the bakery’s Twitter account has since been removed but here is what it said: “Not sure if these are in good taste, but they sure taste good. Our #OscarMedia Meme cookies.” Attached was the pic below.
This sparked an outcry from their Twitter following, voicing their disgust at the bakery’s actions.
Since the post was taken down Charly’s Bakery apologised with the following posts.
We seriously got it wrong with the #OscarMedia Meme cookies & we are hanging our collective heads in shame. #WeAlwaysRememberReeva

The #OscarMedia cookies were NOT for sale. Our intention was to stimulate debate as we always do with topical issues in the media

We messed up completely & we own our mistake. We apologise sincerely & we regret any offence we have caused to the Steenkamp family.
