As the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 continues, its mysterious disappearance has captured the world’s attention. Check out a couple of aviation mysteries from the past.

Here are fieve aircraft disappearances that stumped the world:

    1. Amelia Earhart, 1937

The famous female aviator went missing on her second attempt to circumnavigate the globe. When she was approaching Howland Island she radioed in, saying she was low on fuel and unsure of her location. Shortly after, communications with her went dead. Search efforts for Earhart were in vain with no trace of her ever found.

    2. Flight 19 – 1945

14 men were doing a routine training exercise in five torpedo bombers off the coast of Florida. They soon disappeared after the pilots reported disorientation when the test bombing began. A seaplane with 13 crew members was sent to search for the planes and crew – it also disappeared without a trace. This incident sparked the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle.

    3. UC-64 Norseman – 1944

A popular musician and composer at the time, Glenn Miller was on a flight that went missing over the English Channel. No trace of the flight was ever found.

    4. Star Dust – 1947

BSAA Star Dust left Buenos Aires en route to Chile. When the flight did not arrive, a massive five-day search could not find a trace of the plane. 50 years later rock climbers found the wreckage of the flight in the Andes.

    5. Star Tiger – 1948 and Star Ariel – 1949

Both flights disappeared within the Bermuda triangle, adding to the area’s mystery. Again, no signs of the planes were ever found.
