Police have opened a murder investigation, after the body of a 53-year-old man was found drifting in the sea next to a burning life raft in the Caribbean Sea, near the island of St Vincent. A diver found sailing instructor John Edward Garner’s body after seeing smoke from his life raft close to a burnt-out yacht.
Police are now searching for a woman named, Heidi Hukkelaas, believed to be his wife, with whom he came to St Vincent in January. Island residents claim Miss Hukkelaas left Garner two days before his body was found, to look after her children in Norway. Police officers say that Hukkelaas did not leave the country via any of the island’s main airports or seaports.
