Here Is Your New Springbok Rugby Captain

Following the injury to Stormers centre Jean de Villiers, the Springbok coaching staff have appointed a new Springbok captain to lead South Africa in the upcoming June Test series.

After an absence from the international scene for almost three years, Victor Matfield has returned to the Springbok squad, and in style, we might add.

After an exhilarating season with the Bulls in 2014, he has not only been invited to the Bok squad, but has been named Captain, till Jean de Villiers recovers from his knee injury. De Villiers is expected to return only in August.

“It’s only a short-term appointment as Jean will take over as captain again once he’s recovered from his injury. Victor was a logical option – he knows the pressure associated with being Springbok captain as he’s been there before and he has vast captaincy experience at all levels of the game.”
