State Of The Nation: Important Cape Town Road Closures Today

Take note of these closures if you are in or around Cape Town city bowl or the Newlands areas today! There a few and they coincide, naturally, with peak hour traffic.

As is to be expected, most of the road closures are in Cape Town CBD today and run throughout the day starting from 9am this morning. If you are planning to be in one of these areas today, we would advise you to reschedule or take your running shoes!

The earliest and longest road closure will be Commercial Street between Plein and Niewmeester Ln. from 6am until 22h00 tonight.

This morning expects closures to start from 9am (and last all the way through until 21h00) on:

  • Plein St. between Barrack St and Vrede St,
  • St John’s Rd – between Roeland and Vrede St’s
  • Gallery Ln – the whole road
  • Government Ave- the whole road
  • Boquet St – the whole road
  • Roeland St – between Plein and Buitenkant St’s.

On the way home from work closures will start from 16h00.

16h00-20h00

  • Adderly St between Hans Strijdom Ave and Wale St
  • Wale St between Burg and Adderly St’s
  • Nelson Mandela Blvd inbound: Strand St offramp.
  • Plein St between strand a spin street
  • Strand St inbound: Russel to Adderley St’s
  • Strand St outbound : from Adderley to Castle  St’s

16h00-22h00

  • Bureau St: between Adderley and Parliament St’s
  • Spin St: between Corporation and Parliament St’s
  • Parliament between parliament and Longmarket.

17h00-20h00

  • Castle St: Strand to Darling, except busses
  • Darling st: Buitenkant to Adderly, limited access.

17h45-19h00

  • Strand St outbound: Long St into Adderley St.
  • Roeland St: Between Buitenkant St and Jutland Ave.

There will also be closures from 17h45 until 19h00 along the M3 and Nelson Mandela Blvd and linking roads:
