Twitter is most often an outlet for your stream of consciousness that your non-cyber friends can’t stand to listen to. It is to be expected, then, that an event like the World Cup, The Super Bowl or any other event in which fans are invested in a particular outcome would get the twitter heartbeat racing.
Brazil’s victory over Chile in an agonizing penalty shootout that sent the hosts into the World Cup quarter-finals was more frantically tweeted than the Super Bowl, the social media company said on Saturday.
Traffic reached a record pace of 388,985 tweets per minute during the game, beating the 381,605 messages per minute fired during this year’s NFL final, Twitter Inc said in a statement.
Although the moment of victory for Brazil may not have reached the record for the most number of tweets altogether, it holds the record for the most tweets per minute… for now.
New record if Brazil win the final?
