Laird Hamilton, an American big-wave surfer, took an amazingly long ride on a beautiful wave in Malibu. Everyone seems to think it is him (it’s definitely not me, so we can rule that one out) with reports that he had been spotted in the area.
“Shooting the pier” means to ride a wave and manoeuvre oneself and board through the gaps below the support pillars of the pier. And come out alive.
There have been 10 – 15 foot waves off the California coastline, caused by Hurricane Marie. Once again, humans making good out of bad things.
