Screaming around racetracks at over 100mph is already risky, but add torrential rain to the course and things can literally slip out of ones control.
During the Japanese Grand Prix, French Formula One driver Jules Bianchi lost control going around a corner and drove straight into a massive recovery tractor that was trying to clear away another car.
Bianchi was found unconscious but breathing for himself, he was taken to the track’s medical centre and later to Mie General Hospital. He has undergone brain surgery and is now in intensive care.
Lewis Hamilton, who won the race, commented:
“Our first thoughts go to Jules – it overshadows everything else when one of our colleagues is injured and we are praying for him. Next to this, the race result doesn’t seem significant at all.”
