But of course when the crocodile ate the man they had to kill the crocodile too. Because, you know, it was all the crocodiles fault that some could-be food decided to take a swim at 23h00.
29-year-old Jacques van der Sandt and his friend were playing golf all day at Skukuza Golf Course and when the evening came, decided swimming would be the best idea ever.
It wasn’t.
“These animals are not in good condition as they have just come out of hibernation,” SA National Parks disease ecologist Dr Danny Govender said in a joint statement.
The croc managed to get a good bite of Jacques’ chest, dragging him underwater.
The animal was doing what naturally comes to them; hunting for food and unfortunately a life was lost in the process.
A field ranger shot the crocodile, trying to save Jacques, but it was too late. So really there were two lives lost.
I’m not a bunny-hugger (never take fillet steaks away from me) but unnecessarily killing animals when HUMANS are in THEIR space really grates my carrot.
