Cool your jets, perverts, this isn’t the tech-geek version of 2Girls1Cup. Still want to read on? Good, there goes the riff-raff then.
It is actually a fantastic new product called the Omniprocessor, aimed at curbing the problem of exposed waste disposal in third-world countries. The costs of introducing Western-style waste removal systems in developing countries is exceedingly high, meaning there are still around a billion people who are forced to do the dirty in the open.
This is where Janicki Bioenergy comes in,developing a machine that burns human waste to produce electricity and water. As you may have guessed Bill Gates has backed the initiative, writing on his blog:
The water tasted as good as any I’ve had out of a bottle … and having studied the engineering behind it, I would happily drink it every day. It’s that safe.
Gates, whilst singing the praises of the initiative, also went on to say the following:
“The processor wouldn’t just keep human waste out of the drinking water; it would turn waste into a commodity with real value in the marketplace,” Gates wrote. “It’s the ultimate example of that old expression: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
