When you are a dictator  the president of a country one of the perks of the job is a spin doctor to cover up all of your bloopers. Sometimes, however, they just make you seem like an even bigger tosser.

In light of Bob Mugabe’s fall from grace yesterday, Zimbabwean state media have rushed to the 90-year-old’s defence, claiming he was the victim of some inept carpet-laying. This from news24:

Information minister and spin doctor Jonathan Moyo told the paper that Mugabe’s fall was not news as anyone – “even Jesus” – could have tripped in that situation…

What happened is that the president tripped over a hump on the carpet on one of the steps of the dais as he was stepping down from the platform…even Jesus, let alone you, would have also tripped in that kind of situation,” Moyo said.

This hasn’t stopped the internet from tearing him a new one with a collection of fantastic memes.

Keep your ears peeled for claims that Mugabe can turn water into wine. I wouldn’t put it past our mates up North.
