Isn’t it wonderful that we live in a world which is, albeit slowly, re-addressing the inequalities between men and women? Well don’t get too excited there boys and girls, because a quick look at some laws from around the world shows we have a long, long way to go.

Let’s get stuck straight into it, with these excerpts taken from the Daily Beast:

[India] has effectively legalized marital rape. A similar law remains on the books in Singapore, where marital rape is acceptable so long as the girl is over 13 years old. In the Bahamas, rape is also not considered if there is a marriage and the girl is at least 14 years old.

So a man has the right to have sex with his wife whenever he pleases, whether or not she has a headache? Disgraceful, and it only gets worse.

In Malta and Lebanon, crimes are literally erased once the offender marries the victim. For instance, in Malta, if a kidnapper “after abducting a person, shall marry such person, he shall not be liable to prosecution”.

So nabbing the women of your dreams just got a whole lot easier around those parts.

In Nigeria, violence “by a husband for the purpose of correcting his wife” is considered lawful”.

So much for happy wife happy life. Enter Egypt, because they don’t like to be outdone…

Egyptian law proclaims that “Whoever surprises his wife in the act of adultery and kills her on the spot together with her adulterer-partner shall be punished with detention…

Murder your wife? Take a seat in the naughty corner mate, but don’t get too down on yourself.

Of course we are only scratching the surface here as this list could go on for days. Read the full article HERE. I’m off to make myself a sandwich.
