Anyone living in and around the Slaapstad area will, by now, be aware of the raging fires engulfing the peninsula. Seriously, the smoke is so hectic in some areas it resembles the smog emanating from the Jozi CBD.

Muizenberg seems to be the worst affected areas, with some outlets reporting that four homes have already been destroyed. The fire has now spread to Noordhoek and Hout Bay causing some residents to hose down their roofs as a precaution.

It has also been reported that forty families have been evacuated from the Stonehurst Estate in Westlake as the flames raged closer. Below are some images of the fire taken from News24.

Below is a picture taken from a residence in Kirstenhof.

As the fire raged over Chapmans Peak famed hotel Tintswalo was evacuated, with their Facebook page releasing the following statement:

In the early hours of this morning, a raging fire swept through the Table Mountain National park , engulfing our beautiful Tintswalo Atlantic in flames. No staff or guests were hurt and are all safe. Damage to our lodge is yet to be determined and a press release shall be issued shortly.

Residents around the peninsula have been battling the blaze, many since around 2AM last night when wind conditions caused the blaze to spiral out of the firefighters’ control. We salute all the fine folk out there aiding the rescue and emergency services, here’s hoping we can get this bastard under control before further damage is done.
