It was a bit of a scorcher out there yesterday, and when I say scorcher I mean it was 43 degrees Celsius. Personally, I think that is a perfect temperature whilst many others have a little moan about it. I love the heat. I especially enjoy it when I don’t have to sit in an office under a freezing cold aircon.
That’s why yesterday we decided to get a little spot at Shimmy Beach Club. It’s out the office, it’s got big glass fold-back doors, and it has a view.
That’s really all I should need to say about this place. Those three factors alone make it one of the most magical destinations in Cape Town. And it really is a destination. It’s a bar, it’s a restaurant, it’s a beach, it’s a glorious little playground.
I had to sit in a bikini and a slightly wet sarong, tapping away at my MacBook keys, wearing my Ray Bans. It was hard work, I tell you, whilst I enjoyed a refreshing cold drink and a few dainty pieces of sushi. Sigh.
Just have a look…
I know, right?
As you know, Cape Town’s “season” is coming to a bit of an end. Shimmy Beach Club had a little end of summer party last weekend with The Parlotones, but that by no means indicates this place is dying down for winter. They have a some very cool things lined up to keep us on our toes when the cloudy skies come (and, quite frankly, watching a stormy sea is beautiful, but we still have plenty of warm weather left). Shimmy opens its doors during winter to new adventures. You know the Veuve Cliquot Polo on this weekend? They’re basically moving Shimmy to Val de Vie for Saturday’s after party.
You don’t have to wait for other people to host a party – you could just have your own one. Shimmy can handle a whopping 2000 people. We’re talking beach weddings, Matric dances, conferences that will impress anyone from inland or another country.
Also, let me take this moment to introduce you to their app.
Available for iPhone and Android, it is interactive as anything – The Shimmy Beach Club app will keep you all updated with the latest events, competitions and promotions using Push Notification technology, ensuring that you never miss out. Book a table in the restaurant, a sun lounger or gazebo, view the latest menus, videos and galleries at the touch of a button on any mobile device. You can also view details of the venue, obtain turn-by-turn directions and instantly contact Shimmy.
Well, doesn’t this make your life 99% easier?
