Even though Shrien Dewani’s trial is over, people continue to talk about it – everyone was on the edge of their seats watching Shrien TV, waiting for a verdict and when it finally came, many people were less than ecstatic. He walked away a free man because the judge threw out his case. He never even had to speak under oath in court.
Everyone had their opinions and reasonings and theories (as one is entitled to in the free world) and I’m sure a few of you out there would have listened to John Robbie’s show on 702. It is an interesting listen most of the time, but in December, just before the verdict of Dewani, he made a comment:
Right from the start I smelt a rat and I think he is guilty as hell.
Did you know that someone from the general public took him to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCC) over that? The listener could not handle Robbie’s “atrociously biased viewpoint”.
Since when are people not allowed to voice their opinion in this country?
Thankfully, the BCC ruled in Robbie’s favour, saying “the Dewani matter was of public interest, and it was ‘permissible to have a view'”.
Abso-freaking-lutely.
