  • Milnerton And Bellville – The EFF Is Coming For You

The EFF has been threatening to move into Bishopscourt and Camps Bay for months now but to no avail (TF). That’s not to mean the residents of Cape Town can let out a breath of relief just yet. The EFF still wants to claim areas, they’re just going to do it in another way now…

As part of the EFF’s bid to rid the country of colonial and apartheid era statues, the party wants 40 towns in the Western Cape to be renamed.

They’re not stopping there though. The EFF also wants to rename the country.

Look, we’ve already had so many things in South Africa renamed that some of us don’t even know the name of the city we live in, so this comes as no surprise.

Bernard Joseph, the Western Cape chairperson for the EFF, has given us an outline of the party’s plans:

EFF will do an extensive research project and the list will definitely be expanded. We are even going to track down and destroy the smallest statues of Queen Victoria that’s being hidden in churches. It is unacceptable that there are streets in the smallest hamlets with the name of Jan van Riebeeck or PW Botha.

The EFF has released a list of areas they want renamed: Tulbagh, Stellies, Milnerton, Bellville, Durbanville… Watch out, you’re amongst the targets.

    Sigh.

Joseph also reminded everyone of the fact that “black South Africans are reminded of the oppression every day by names and statues that cannot be changed or removed. It’s like a rape victim that has to look their rapist in the eyes every day”.

He also pointed out that “no transformation has so far taken place under the DA in the Western Cape”.

The Western Cape minister of cultural affairs and sport, Anroux Marais has said that name changes are “not only impractical , but also hopelessly unaffordable”.

Yes, Joseph, that’s probably because there are more pressing issues at hand, like education and health.
