To break the dreary Monday morning news of bribing kings in Africa and nut-job cops in the US, we bring you a sweet story about an elementary school janitor in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

Alan Shepard Elementary School gave its students a bit of time during school hours to sign each others year books, and something lovely happened: Steve Weidner, the school custodian, attained “Rock Star status” amongst the kids.

So many of the children wanted him to sign their books that someone got him a chair, and a line of children formed to the left.

Trying to explain why every student wanted Mr. Steve to sign their books, the headmistress said that “he pays attention to the kids. The kids know if anything happens, Mr. Steve is going to take care of it.”

Well done, humans. Funny how it sometimes takes such a small thing. And children.
