How do you know when a FIFA employee is lying? His lips are moving.
No, that’s not the joke that saw FIFA’s now ex-Communications Director Walter De Gregorio get the sack; his was far better, although you can’t say much for his timing. In the midst of the biggest crisis the sport of football (and perhaps any sport) has ever faced, Walter appeared on a Swiss TV show called Schawinski and dropped this bombshell, quoted on BusinessInsider:
Fifa president Sepp Blatter, the media director, and the general secretary are sitting in a car, who is driving?
The police!
Let’s just take a moment to appreciate that joke. Those are pretty much the three biggest dogs FIFA has to offer so at the very least you must admire the man’s gall.
In a statement, FIFA said De Gregorio “decided to relinquish his office with immediate effect.”
A FIFA spokesperson told Business Insider, “The decision on the aforementioned matter was one of a mutual nature between Mr. De Gregorio and FIFA.”
