I’m sure at some point in the last few months you’ve wondered aloud about exactly when the van Breda family tragedy will see an arrest. Surely by now, with evidence having mounted one damning bit on top of another, the police are ready to take the plunge and bring in the person they think is responsible?

Something that many people have pointed to is that Marli van Breda, the 16-year-old survivor of the truly horrific axe attack from January, had yet to be reunited with her 20-year-old brother Henri. Well it seems the two have finally met and, if reports are to believed, it was a pleasant affair. Here’s Sky News:

Marli’s legal representative and advocate Louise Buikman has told Sky News the pair were recently reunited.

She said Marli – who was discharged from a rehabilitation centre two months ago – was “very pleased” to see her brother at the meeting.

But Ms Buikman said she was unable to comment on what was said or how long they met for due to the sensitivity of the case.

Marli is said to have no memory of the attack due to the injuries she sustained, having been placed under police protection due to the lack of arrests in the case. She is recovering well and has even returned to school:

“That she survived the attack is a miracle and her physical recovery continues to astound those close to her,” a statement said.

“She is able to walk, communicates well and, surprisingly, given everything that has happened, has retained her sense of humour.”

It really is great news that she seems to have come out the other side of this horrid affair in good health. Here’s hoping that the SAPS can make some strides in the investigation and help her put the ordeal behind her.
