In a freak incident that would have the likes of Jeremy Clarkson frothing at the mouth, an unfortunate Maserati owner found himself on the wrong end of a $90,000 insurance bill when he wrote his car off… with a can of paint.
Evidence of how life can go so wrong so quickly, one minute the unfortunate Aussie was cruising along in his million rand car, can of paint chilling on the backseat (as one does). Next minute a rogue dog had him swerving, paint flying, and his sexy leather interior looking like a 5 year old’s artjam party.
Claims Manager for RAA Insurance Hayley Cain said:
As the tin flew around the car like a mini tornado, the leather interior and windscreen were liberally splashed with a thick coat of white paint.
Fortunately the driver was fine, but given the extent of damage to the interior, our insurance assessors declared it a write off and we settled the claim for over $90,000.
Apparently this was up there with the most bizarre cases, with other random claims involving animals and luxury cars including rats chewing through a land cruiser’s wiring, a parrot eating a Mercedes Benz door trim and a dog-trashed interior.
In any case I think we’ve all learnt a valuable lesson here. DIY and supercars don’t mix.
