There you are, innocently passing the time on Facebook, when you think you might just check in on that old friend and see how they are doing. You head to the search bar, type in their name and all of a sudden you see ’23 mutual friends’ – hang on a minute, this piece of work unfriended you?
Now up until now there has been no easy way to see who has deemed you unworthy of a meaningless digital friendship other than to find out the hard way, although that is all about to change. A new app called Who Deleted Me for Facebook has entered the fray and it’s set to make the unfriending process a whole lot more harrowing. Mashable reports:
[The app] makes a list of your current Facebook friends and tracks who removes you over time. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t know who has defriended you in the past; it only keeps tabs of your friend list after it’s been downloaded.
Who Deleted Me for Facebook, which is available for iOS, Android and a Chrome extension, creates a feed of who has removed you. It also notifies you each time someone else deletes you from their friends’ list, if you need reasons to feel bummed throughout the day.
The app has been around since 2009 but was disabled by Facebook after they felt it ‘circumvented their intended limitations’.
My only worry is that we may be set for even more of those ‘I’m culling friends on Facebook will you / won’t you make the cut’ kind of posts, something I think we could all do without. Feel free to delete me as you please, just don’t make a song and a dance of it or you might be beaten to the punch.
