The Guy Who Invented Minecraft Explains Why You Don’t Want To Win The Lottery

Be warned, money can make you super unhappy - but all you got to do is not let the blinding lights of newfound fame cloud your mind.

The Swedish programer who invented one of the world’s most pointless yet ridiculously addictive games is having a hard time being rich.

Markus Persson claims he has been ruined by the money he made after selling his company, Mojang, as well as the stupidly popular Minecraft to Microsoft last year for about R33.6 bil. He personally gained around R21.5 bil and let those dollar bills fly as he experienced what it was like to live the high life.

Unfortunately, it didn’t all work out to plan.

He bought a swish R1 bil house in Beverley Hills which he snatched from pop king & queen Jay Zee and Beyonce, and held extravagant parties with guest lists including DJ’s, actors and other famous faces.

It should be obvious you can’t buy friends and that the ‘cool kids’ flocking to his ostentatious soirees may be drawn by something other than the portly, balding and scruffily-dressed nerd king who hosts them.

But as he admits, the Swede couldn’t have been less prepared for super-wealth. He had a difficult childhood in a small, rural town where his parents had moved to escape his father’s drug and alcohol addiction in Stockholm.

At school, Persson struggled to make friends and retreated to his computer, writing his first game when he was eight.

All the truth of his unhappiness came out when he was sitting in Ibiza one night and took to Twitter to rant about his loneliness and loss of motivation due to the cash and bright lights.

We wish the man well in his future endeavours and hope that his illusions of money and wealth level out. However, we’ll still be buying a ticket for the next Powerball which is now at a whopping $133 mil, about R1.8 bil.

See you in Ibiza bud, the next round will be on us.
