You have to be rather handy (and lucky) behind the camera to scoop first prize in the 2015 Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. You also have to take a rather large amount of snaps, I doubt any recipient of this award has a computer that isn’t filled with folder after folder.
First let’s hear from amateur Don Gutoski, the man who nabbed top spot. Here’s the BBC:
…the picture captures the moment a red fox hauls away the carcass of its Arctic cousin following a deadly attack in Canada’s Wapusk National Park.
“It’s the best picture I’ve ever taken in my life,” Don told BBC News.
“It’s the symmetry of the heads, the bodies and the tails – even the expression on the faces.”
The ranges of the two fox species overlap at Wapusk, which hugs the shore of Hudson Bay in Manitoba.
And if the larger red catches sight of the Arctic resident, it will try to prey on the northern species.
The scene has been set, let’s look at this beauty then…
That’s a pretty decent effort Don, think you might have earned that prize. There are a number of other categories where prizes are awarded, these below winning first prize in some of those:
