Read it and weep Mteto Nyati, it’s your worst nightmare come true.
The MTN CEO made waves this week when he had some nasty things to say about Whatsapp, and the data from the South African Social Media Landscape study by World Wide Worx and Fuseware is only going to make him even more hot under the collar. Over to TimesLive to deliver the bad news:
…chat application WhatsApp is the most dominant application on smartphones, taking the number one position on both Android and iOS platforms.
With its parent company Facebook at the Windows Phone top slot, the social media giant has entrenched its position in the minds of smartphone users.
So those top three in order then – WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Facebook. Well played Zuckerberg, well played. So who’s raking in the moola off the paid apps then?
Plague, Pimp Your Screen and Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock top the paid charts.
In terms of highest grossing apps, Clash of the Clans, Game of War and Candy Crush Saga top the charts.
“Games completely dominate the top ten lists for highest grossing apps on iOS and Android, filling the entire top ten on each, as well as the top eight in the Windows Store,” [Arthur Goldstuck, managing director of World Wide Worx] said.
So the two things people do the most on their phone, send Whatsapp messages and play games, and neither is lining the pocket of Nyati. You poor delusional man, the game has changed and you’re obviously behind the 8-ball on this one.
