These Are The National Parks You HAVE To Visit In South Africa

Going on a Safari in South Africa is the only way to experience nature in our glorious country - so we chose five places that you should definitely try out.

If one were to holiday in South Africa, a trip to a local National Park would be high on the list of “Must Sees”. The experience is like no other, sleeping in the bush, resting under the stars and enjoying game drives with an experienced ranger who can speak at length on the local flora and fauna.

With South Africa’s eight biomes, the range of scenery is extensive and one is able to choose a safari depending on the nature they want to see: From witnessing the Big 5 towards the north, to hiding in deep forests in the south, the options are endless and accommodate, literally, every interest. We chose five gateways to South African National Parks for you to choose from:

Glen Reenen Rest Camp Golden Gate Highlands SANParks

Offering a selection of rondavels, longdavels and cottages with either one double and two single beds or two single and one stack bed, there is also a camping site in the beautiful shaded grounds, ablutions and barbecue facilities.

Limpopo Forest Camp, Mapungubwe National Park, Limpopo: R820 Per unit, Sleeps 2

Limpopo Forest Camp Mapungubwe National Park SANParks

Situated within the Limpopo riverine forest, the camp offers excellent birding and it is located in the western section of the park which is close to Maloutswa Pan hide.

Orangekloof Tented Camp, Table Mountain National Park, Western Cape: R465 p/p

Orangekloof Tented Camp Orangekloof National Park SANParks
Just down the road from Constantia Nek going towards Hout Bay you will find the turn-off for this campsite which lies nestled within the ancient Afromontane forest of Orange Kloof. The magic of the forest and tranquility of the setting provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway.
Twee Rivieren Rest Camp Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park SANParks
Twee Rivieren is situated on the banks of the Dry Nossob Riverbed. Activities and facilities are diverse, as are the animals and plants found both within the camp and in the surrounding areas. Twee Rivieren has a reception, a shop, fuel, a restaurant, information centre and swimming poo as well as being the only camp with 24 hour electricity and cell phone reception.
Umlani Bush Camp Timbavati Game Reserve
An exclusive rustic lodge accommodating only 16 guests in en suite reed and thatch rondavels, early morning and evening game drives are great, traversing an area of more than 10000 hectares. Enjoy a spectacular sunrise deep in the bush before returning to the camp for a hearty breakfast. Spend the heat of the day with a cool box of refreshments at one of our hides watching birds swoop down to the water and mammals materialising out of the bush. During your evening drive, watch the white light of the moon take over from the flame-coloured sun while enjoying sundowners surrounded by the unique sounds of the African wilderness.
