Last week’s biggest scandal was Jacob Zuma’s paycheck. Compared to the rest of the world, the daftly president earns the fourth highest salary and we all know he just does not deserve it.
When his salary was then compared to size of the economies they run, it showed that Zuma was still hugely overpaid.
Yet Zuma’s supporters cried out, saying that the comparison was unfair and the size of the economy is not the correct measure. So then a new comparison was done just to show that the figures were legit: a comparison to that of the average earnings of the citizens in the countries in which each president rules (AKA the GDP per capita).
The gist? JZ earns 34.5 times what the average South African is paid. The only leader closest to him is India’s Narendras Modi who is paid almost 20 times his impoverished nation’s average. But, like, India’s population is 1.2 billion compared to our 53 million.
How much longer will this go on?
