Start a list of Cape Town’s best anything and there is sure to be bickering, but start talking seafood and everyone has their two cents to add.

I guess that’s the price you pay for living in the Mother City, surrounded by those pesky mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. Gosh, what a drag.

But you came here to talk seafood, so let’s forget about gloating and start salivating over some tasty underwater morsels.

We’ve enlisted the help of Connecto to make the search all the more simple – a few steps to show you how it all works:

    • Download the app (iOS HERE, Android HERE) and punch in your area code.
    • Bust out some hashtags – I went really out the box and tried #seafood.
    • Living in the City Bowl means quite a few options…

Of course that’s just me, I’ll check in with the 2OV Directory and see what they can recommend:

    Live Bait

Situated directly below Harbour House, Live Bait restaurant is not only on the breakwater, but one of it’s walls actually IS the breakwater of Kalk Bay Harbour. When it comes to dining at sea level, you simply can’t get closer to the action than this.

Live Bait is about colourful, casual, comfortable dining in a harbour venue that is unique in South Africa. On sunny days, the floor to ceiling windows are opened to allow the heady scent of the sea to whet your appetite. Popular with young couples, families and foreign dignitaries alike, the casual banquette seating and colourful harbour atmosphere make Live Bait the perfect place to enjoy a lazy lunch by the sea.

The guys over at Harbour House certainly know how to put on a good show too.

While we’re over that side we should also mention Kalky’s, always popular with the locals and offering a very laid-back experience.

For those who prefer city slicking we have to mention Miller’s Thumb, second on our Connecto search, reviewed on InsideGuide:

For seafood with a difference, head to one of Cape Town’s hidden gems nestled between the Waterfront and the Table Mountain cableway. The converted home is full of character with brightly painted orange and green walls inside and out. You’ll do well to order a smack-of-the-sea piece of grilled fish or try a Cajun-, Moroccan-, Malay- or Creole-flavoured dish. Either way, you’ll discover why many claim it’s one of the best seafood restaurants in Cape Town.

Location wise it doesn’t come much better than Baia, who have this to say about themselves:

    ctseafoodrest2

Set in a prime spot at the Victoria Wharf, Baía (pronounced Ba-hia and meaning the Bay) enjoys spectacular panoramic harbour and ocean views…

Baía specialises in the finest seafood from around southern Africa…and has earned the reputation as the place to indulge in the best seafood platter in the Cape.

Feel like you’re ready to smash some seafood in and around your face? You’re not alone, general banter in the office has given way to a little drooling.

If you’re not on board the Connecto train you’ll want to get with the program too – find out what all the fuss is about HERE, then consider the main feature that makes life just that little bit easier.

Download the app and insert your contact list – presto, all of your friends’ business details are now stored in the app.

You can easily see if anyone you know can fix your leaky geyser or organise your next trip – lekker, don’t mind if I do.
