Bad weather in New York caused the cancellation of the third day of the Governor’s Ball, at which Kanye West was supposed to headline.
At the same time, the festival Hot 97 Summer Jam was going down and its two smaller stages were shut down due to the weather.
What remained was their main stage and a free Kanye West concert. So what did some people do? Attempt to shut down New York.
It was a plan that rapper 2Chainz helped spread when he recorded a video suggesting Kanye West would be playing at Hot 97 Webster Hall stage, thengot hip hop blog Pigeons and Planes to spread it via their Twitter.

What followed was a mass arrival at Webster Hall that no one could disperse – not even Webster Hall organisers. Instead, Kanye’s own team shared an image:
What followed was thousands of fans rocking up to watch a show that didn’t happen. Even Kanye came to see what the fuss was about, which got fans even more riled up.
